Black Raven
Born in Portscatho the daughter of well to do farming folk, Black Raven ( her real name so guarded a secret that if I tell you she will kill you.) always had a spirit larger than any farming community could hold.
She ran from her home much to the distress of her parents when she was only eight years old, and went to live with a wise woman deep in the wilds of Bodmin Moor somewhere near an ancient and holy Lake.
She re entered society on her sixteenth birthday when she wandered into the Jamaica Inn one day offering cures and charms to the locals. So effective was her medicine they convinced her to stay and gave her lodgings in the outbuildings to the rear.
This arrangement suited everyone very well and for the first time she could remember Black Raven was happy and at peace. Unfortunately as will happen the local church heard of her Pagan ways and having reported her to the bishop of Truro set out to have her arrested and tried as a witch. (Later she would always claim it was the Baby Eating bishop of Bath and Wells)
Her popularity however led to her being warned and spirited away to Falmouth where she disguised herself as a boy and signed on aboard a trading Indiaman bound for the Bahamas.
Once there she found her Wiccan ways to be quite at home in an area where Voodoun beliefs held sway.
Perhaps she would have ended her tale here if not for a chance encounter with Captain Blackheart and his crew. Seeing the egalitarian way in which he and his Pirates lived with each other and the easy swagger and bluster in their manner Black Raven also noticed the huge amounts of money they spent when in port. It was not difficult for her to sign on with them since what Pirates wouldn't want a healer alongside them, and it didn't hurt that by now she had grown into a comely wench.
