Ruby (Hackabout) Hawkins

Orphaned at birth and handed to a convent off the Devon coast, Ruby was raised a God fearing Catholic. Versed in Latin and the healing art of medicinal herbs and decoctions grown in the grounds, she lived a sedate life until one dark night silver sixpence of a moon, a troupe of wandering Minstrals sought solace and healing from the nuns. They filled Ruby's ears with tales of adventures on land and strange stories of the sea. Being a spirited young woman, she stole away with her new found companions - who it transpired were not a theatrical troupe at all. but highway robbers of a rather cutthroat persuasion. Rumoured to have skewered a man in a trice for not grooming Black Bessie, her faithful mare, she spent time in Newgrange prison, sharing a cell with one Lilly Lark. How she escaped is still a mystery but she boarded the pirate ship posing as a common strumpet, but unbeknown to the pirates, she fancies their ship for her own.
