Violet Moon
Violet Moon was born in 1706 to an English father and an Irish mother and lived in a village on the south east coast of England. A quiet child of wistful thought, she loved to lose herself in books, on the rare occasions she was able to come by them. She adored nature, often taking herself off to be among the trees and flowers of the surrounding woods and meadows, but most of all she found herself drawn to the sea. Violet loved to sit and watch the waves ebb and flow and look for ships on the distant horizon carrying, as her imagination would have it , exotic spices, fabrics and jewels.
As a young woman she practiced as a healer mixing potions and preparations to heal the sick and soothe the uneasy of mind. She combined her knowledge of wild herbs and flowers with her understanding of the tides and phases of the moon, bringing comfort and well being to the local people.
There came a day when violet was requested to tend to the Earl of Kent. Sadly his condition was untreatable and he died within hours of receiving Violet's care. The Earl's son angrily turned on Violet and accused her of being a witch and murdering his father with her potions. The local people were afraid of retribution from their new landlord and so followed suit in branding Violet an enchantress and runing her out of town, swearing to see her dead should she ever return.
With nowhere to go and nobody to turn to, Violet wandered the south coast of England finding food and shelter where she could, and using her healing skills to earn her keep. Eventually she ended up on the Cornish coast and found herself tending to pirates and privateers wounded in battle by blade and bullet. Over the months she watched the ones that survived leave on their ships for seas afar and found herself envying their way of life. One day she talked of her longings to one of her recovering patients, wondering aloud if a life at sea was possible for a woman, and before she knew it she found herself on board a ship bound for the Caribbean.
And so Violet Moon became a pirate, and she now spends her life crossing the seas in search of bounty and healing her fellow pirates along the way.
Is Violet truly a witch? Only the moon and the sea know for sure, and they are not telling....
